I keep looking out my window into the yard for the chukar partridge but no luck.  I first saw it Christmas eve, then Christmas again and finally the next morning when I flushed it when I let out my dogs.

Every day since I have been looking for it.  I found out it is a game bird, somewhat rare.  I will just consider the sighting serendipity.  Nevertheless, I will keep hoping to catch a glimpse of it.

I looked up the bird in an Audubon Society field guide.(Western Region) It is called a chukar similar to the size and shape of a gray partridge but it is a type of pheasant. It is called a chukar partridge and was introduced successfully to the West from the “Mediterrean” dry belt of Eurasia. It is a hardy gamebird that can outrun a hunter(first running uphill, then flying downhill) I do not know what it is doing here except we live within two miles of a gameland and they stock it with ring-necked pheasants and maybe they stock that bird there too. I have never seen the bird before. I am just guessing, though. I did talk to someone in my church and he said the bird is somewhat rare here.
