The Black-Eyed Susans were finally  blooming.  They come up each summer and are one of the last flowers of the summer to bloom.  They are annuals, that seed themselves.  I thought it was unusual this year that the flowers were all at different heights–from six inches high to two feet and everything else in between.  They had too much competition this year with the other weeds.  I love looking at them.  We have several beds of them.  The flowers last for weeks.  Summer is on its way out.  At least it seemed that way.  Summer still had eight weeks to go.  The heat wave we had finally broke.  And we welcomed temperatures in the eighties.

It was sixty-one degrees and there was a mist in the air–only briefly. And I praised the Lord! After several heat waves this weather was a real treat. The rain drops hitting my skin was soothing and a relief. There will be more heat waves before the summer will be up but today I will consider to be a gift even if a blue sky never appears.

We are having an heat wave:  I checked the thermostat on the car and it registered forty degrees.  Once it hit December it got cold and stayed that way.  In July, that would be a cold day.  It is all a sense of perspective.  Now I consider that warm.  Let us see what the rest of winter will bring.  We just missed a snow storm which created havoc at the airports in NYC.  So far nothing worse than a few flakes.  Our luck can’t hold out the rest of winter.  In any case, I will enjoy the weather today.

It Was A Mini Heat Wave

It was a mini heat wave: three days in a row of at least eighty degree temperatures. Fall just came officially a few days ago. For a short time it will be summer again. I put on my shorts which I did not think I would wear again until next year. I will just enjoy this weather. I spent the late morning outside waiting for the mail.

It was drizzling this morning and God Bless the rain!  We have had a heat wave:  temperatures as high as 104 degrees.  Yes, that high temperature was no error on my part.  In my whole life I have never remembered temperatures that high.  I took my dog for a walk in the light drizzle and thanked the Almighty for this respite from the extreme temperature we have been having.  I know “summer” will come back in full force.  I certainly will enjoy this morning and remember this small gift from above.
