A shower is really a privilege.  Most of the world does not even have plumbing–much less a shower.  I had to remind myself of that.  Just about every American has a shower but some act as (if, though ???) they are poor, which they are not.  In fact in the last house I lived for fifteen years I did not have a shower just a tub so having a shower now is really a privilege.

It was just a hot shower and soap.  No small thing.  Although maybe not.  In many parts of the world–the poorer countries like Haiti plumbing and hot water is a big thing.  Many people there don’t have that luxury.  In fact, even a bar of soap, something we take for granted is, also, a luxury.  Disease is running rampart there because many can’t wash after themselves properly.  It is just basic hygiene and many are dying because they can’t afford one bar of soap.  It is so easy to take your life for granted and you do not realize how rich you are in the United States.  And how much you really have.

Everything is by grace.  And I can’t repeat that enough.  I had to remind myself while showering this morning for fifteen years I lived in a house without a shower so I should thank God for this one and not take it for granted.  There are also millions upon millions in this world who do not have basics as plumbing in their house.

God does not owe us anything.  And everything is by grace although He often gives us way beyond the essentials.  Far more that we deserve.  I have said in the past He is up there with trillions of strings attached to Him and they all want it a different way.  I would not want to be God.  I just have to remind myself:  everything is by grace.  And not take anything for granted.
