Spring Is A Day Away

Spring is a day away although it feels like it had arrived early.  By now the daffodils are blooming everywhere.  The crocus are done.  Forsythia are also blooming.  The deciduous trees all have buds.  I have already dug out my shorts.  There were some days that warranted them.  For a few weeks now it has been in the sixties and seventies.  I have even wore my tee shirts although not every day was warm enough to do that.  In a few weeks I will put out hummingbird nectar.  I am shooting for April 1 to do that although I usually do not see them until the end of April.  With the warmer weather maybe they will come sooner.  We will see.

Summer feels like it is done.  September is in a few days.  It is wet and cold–the fringe of the hurricane Irene.  Central Pennsylvania did not get hit hard.  I realized I was cold in my shorts and tee shirt.  It was time to put long pants on as well as long sleeved shirts.  I won’t put away my shorts (away???) yet but it won’t be long until they are stored away for another year.  We still have some hummingbirds coming to our feeder but not as many.  Autumn is around the bend.

It Was A Mini Heat Wave

It was a mini heat wave: three days in a row of at least eighty degree temperatures. Fall just came officially a few days ago. For a short time it will be summer again. I put on my shorts which I did not think I would wear again until next year. I will just enjoy this weather. I spent the late morning outside waiting for the mail.

I did not think about it:  I was wearing shorts today like I have for months.  It was time to switch to pants.  It was rainy and 58 degrees outside.  The summer was really over.  It was only a few weeks ago where the temperature dropped 10 degrees as if someone just flicked a switch.

For months I just wore tee shirts.  I could no longer do that.  Summer had officially less than two weeks to go.  It already felt like autumn.  I just had to make the adjustment as far as apparel.  It was time.
