It Must Be Almost Spring

Author: siggy

It must almost be spring.  Today I saw a robin near our feeders.  I ran out into the yard to make sure I was not mistaken and saw a pair of them hip hopping in the snow across the street.  A little later both of them lit on our front white pine tree:  I guess they could not find any food in the snow.  I was thrilled. And brought them to my (???) attention of my wife.  It was my first sighting of a robin this year.  Both of them were pretty fat so they had no shortage of food.  It was March 8 less than two weeks from spring.

This one made me laugh. Many years ago a friend of mine told me that if the first robin of spring that you saw was on the ground, it foretold bad news for you financially for the year. I did not want to believe it, so I spent springtime looking up, just in case. In North Carolina, robins come through on their way north, and they land in DROVES……..or HERDS, I think……and they ALL land on the lawn. I stand at the window and think of my friend and wonder what she would think of my financial future!
