It was as if someone hit a switch: summer was over and fall came. Summer has only a few days left officially. The warmer temperatures were gone and fall arrived. For that matter, August was not that warm. Now we can watch the fiery display of the leaves turning as we do each autumn.

Summer feels like it is done.  September is in a few days.  It is wet and cold–the fringe of the hurricane Irene.  Central Pennsylvania did not get hit hard.  I realized I was cold in my shorts and tee shirt.  It was time to put long pants on as well as long sleeved shirts.  I won’t put away my shorts (away???) yet but it won’t be long until they are stored away for another year.  We still have some hummingbirds coming to our feeder but not as many.  Autumn is around the bend.

The acorn I found on the ground near my house I marveled at.  It was August 12 and the acorn was an harbinger of fall.  There were not many around.  Summer was only midway.

It was so perfectly round.  Its cap would not come off.  Before I know it the leaves will start coming down.  And next winter will come but there is always the illusion each season is here forever.  The acorn that fell in the middle of summer reminded me before we know the next season will be here.
