The last day of summer the “Monster” cactus bloomed.  I was thrilled about this.  The pink flower was five inches in diameter.  It has one more bloom to go.  When we bought it home months ago, it was blooming all over it.  I never had a cactus bloom on me.  It must have liked the sun it received in that spot.  Its tentacles hanging from a tree are several feet long.  It truly is unusual.  If I remember correctly, she bought it for my birthday (in April).  She was amazed by it, as I am by it now.

Yesterday the healthy Gerbera Daisy plant my wife bought for my birthday was “sagging”:  all five flowers were drooping.  I gave it water in the morning and by the evening the flowers had perked up.  I was thrilled.  I will plant it in an area it did good before.  I like looking at the big peach colored flowers.  It is one of my favorite daisies.

Everything Is By Grace

Everything is by grace.  Today is a good day to count my blessings.  I am not in dialysis.  My kidney function has stabilized (the last three years).  It is not good but it is livable.  My wife loves me.  And my two sisters and my brother-in-law (and a friend) sent me birthday cards (and one check).  There is so much to be grateful of–two well running cars and a roof over my shoulders.  There is no pressing financial needs.  And I am surrounded by animals I love (in fact, there are eleven in this house).  I love watching the birds out my window.  And now I am waiting for the first hummingbird to find the nectar I just put out.  My life is not perfect but it is good.  I am aware God does not owe anything.  Everything is by grace.  And He owns everything.
